Photos from Canada

The instant that I found out it was my surprise birthday party and NOT a chastity interview. Freakin Heck.

Me and my Companion blissfully eating my surprise birthday cake (Elder Rasmussen behind us is from A.F.)

Our mode of transportation. Psych! It's a cool toy we found at a museum. In the kids section. :P

A bus we found at the same museum.... Canadian Museum of Civilization. Kids section. :P

May 7

My apologies for this being late! Totally my fault!

Also, by way of "How fun is that?!", I came home from a meeting Tuesday night and there was an Elder Christensen magnet tag on my marker board. 'Huh. Where did that come from?' So I asked my daughter. She was being all enigmatic, "I told you, and I'll tell you in a minute." Well she had texted me but the text didn't send, so I had no clue what she was talking about and she wasn't being helpful. I finally dragged out of her that she was home alone and the phone rang. She answered and the person said, "Is this the Christensens?" She's thinking, "Oh, great. A sales call." But no, it was someone who actually knew us, sort of. And they were standing on the front porch. She had her music up "a little" loud and hadn't heard them knock. Which they of course, knew, being able to hear the music where they were standing. (I thought that part was really funny.)

So this strange person delivered this name tag from Justin. He had been a missionary in Canada, recently released, had served in Justin's current area, and had gone back just days ago for a visit (and to do splits, I think). So Justin had given him this name tag to deliver to us. And my daughter couldn't remember his name. I was so sad I had missed him. So I got his phone number off our caller ID and called him. (But I called a wrong number first and those poor people think I'm very weird.)

I had a lovely chat with one Chance Cherry. He says Justin is doing well, doesn't act like a greenie missionary at all, the ward loves him and he's just being a wonderful missionary. Had 13 people at church last Sunday, which I guess is a lot more than they usually have.

Just thought I'd share that little story with you.

"Mom"

Hey everyone!

My week was AWESOME. Nothing boring about it, don't even worry. :)

I did get my box! Thank you for everything. And for Grandma's note! I'm glad she's doing well. :)

This week taught me a lot. We've been spending a lot of time going through our Area book and looking up old investigators. Many of them have notes on them about how they're "eternal" or how they have problems that they can't seem to get over. We contacted one of them this week named Kona. We actually brought an old missionary that used to teach him, because he happened to be in the area. :P We spent a good hour chatting with Kona, and by the end of it we were ready to walk away and not come back. He's an active member of a different church and we didn't seem to be able to make any progress. The spirit wasn't there and it seemed pretty hopeless. Right before we asked to say the closing prayer, his brother chimed in out of nowhere and started asking questions about baptism and why it was necessary. We set up a return appointment with the brother of the man we were going to meet. At times it can be easy to make judgements, to decide that it wouldn't be worth your time to go see someone because they'll never change. It's not ours to judge. All of the sucess we've had this week has come from our area book, not from the people in it, but from people we've met while trying to find them. You never know what God has in mind, that's why the spirit is so important. Because we don't see what God sees, and we don't know what God knows. All we can do is humble ourselves and try to follow the Lord's guidance.

I don't have a bunch of time today, so I'll leave it at that. Remember to pray. Remember to keep yourselves in a state of mind where you can hear what the Lord is trying to tell you. Remember to ACT when you recieve a prompting. The Lord will stop talking to us if we don't have the faith to do what He asks.

I love you guys! All of you. Family, Friends, and anyone else reading this. I love you, and so does your Father.

Love,
-Elder Christensen
